The name of the Society is “Cactus K9 Club”
The objectives of the Society are:
- To promote and provide performance and educational events using positive reinforcement training and teamwork, as well as social events and demonstrations to raise public interest and awareness;
- To foster among its members an interest in dog training and welfare for all pure and mixed breeds and ages.
The Cactus K9 Club is governed by an executive group consisting of volunteer members. Individuals expressing interest in becoming a member of the executive group will be offered a Member at Large position if none other exists. The expiry of directors' terms of office is 2 years, at which time they may be reappointed.
Executive meetings will be held as needed. A quorum of 4 is necessary for discussion about and voting on issues that impact club members.
Roles and duties of the executive group include:
a. The President shall convene and chair executive and general meetings, and share signing authority for the Society’s banking
b. The Vice President shall act as Chair, Secretary, or Treasurer in the event that these persons are not available to carry out duties
c. The Treasurer shall maintain the registrar of members, keep financial records, and share signing authority for the Society’s banking.
d. The Secretary shall write correspondence on behalf of the Society, issue notices, keep minutes of meetings, and maintain administrative files.
e. Members at Large assists with event and committee work as needed
Subject to the approval of the Executive, the President may appoint standing committees to advance work of the Club (e.g. agility trials and educational events)

An Annual General Meeting will be held in March.
Special club meetings may be called by the President or by a majority vote by members of the Executive.
Executive meetings are held at a time and place as designated by the President or by majority of the Executive.

Membership
Membership in the Society is open to any member of the public upon payment of an annual fee set by the Executive Group. Members will embrace the objectives of the Society and offer support at club events.
Benefits of membership include:
a. Access to events locally
b. Event discounts and priority registration
c. Participation in online club discussions
There are 2 membership categories:
a. General Member
b. Junior Member (18 years old and younger)
A member ceases to be in good standing when s/he does not pay the annual fee by a published deadline, or has been deemed by the Executive non-compliant to the Society’s objectives and guiding principles.
The duties of the members are:
a. Assist with club events
b. Pay dues
In the event that a member has a complaint against another member for misconduct prejudicial to the best interest of the Club or welfare of dogs, a written complaint will be sent to the Secretary. The Executive will invite the defendant to respond in writing, or to personally appear at an Executive meeting with the option of bringing witnesses. The response from the defendant must be received within 30 days. The Executive will determine by vote if the member will remain in good standing.
Voting
The following conditions apply to voting:
- Voting on decisions that affect club members will be carried out through online polls throughout the year, or at the Annual General Meeting by show of hands.
- Each general member in good standing is entitled to one vote.
- Junior membership have no voting privileges.
- A quorum of 10% is necessary for an Annual General Meeting, but never less than 6 persons.
- A quorum of 10% is necessary for voting through online polls, and must include at least 3 Executive Officers of the Society.
Operations
The Society will raise money and sustain operations through:
- event registration (e.g. trials, seminars)
- membership fees
- sponsorships
- fundraising activities (e.g. silent auctions, raffles)
The operations of the Society are to be primarily carried out in the Kamloops area.
Upon the dissolution of the Society, how surplus assets are distributed will be decided by voting members in good standing.
